LAS VEGAS — Brandon Johnson, a former hotel manager at a prominent Las Vegas Strip resort, is facing serious charges of embezzling more than $776,000 during his tenure, according to law enforcement authorities.

The 38-year-old Johnson is currently facing several felony theft charges, including two counts of stealing sums exceeding $100,000 each.

Johnson was taken into custody on September 1 and is presently held on a $100,000 bond.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police report indicates that MGM Resorts was alerted to potential fraudulent refund activity by an Aria employee, later identified as Johnson.

Upon conducting an internal audit, the resort discovered losses exceeding $700,000 attributed to Johnson’s alleged actions.

Johnson had initially been hired by the company in 2007, then rehired in 2013 after a brief departure, assuming the role of hotel operations manager.

Investigators suspect that Johnson issued a total of 309 refunds to one of six accounts under his name over the course of 12 months.

A coworker of Johnson’s became suspicious of his lavish spending habits and inquired about his newfound wealth. Johnson allegedly informed the coworker that he was working as a private chef for affluent clients, despite never previously mentioning any culinary expertise or chef-related work.

Johnson’s next court hearing is scheduled for September 11.
