LAS VEGAS – A Henderson man, Andrew Warrender, is currently hospitalized after being shot by a security guard at a highrise in Las Vegas. The incident occurred when Warrender opened fire in the lobby, leading to a swift response from law enforcement.
Warrender, 30, is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and discharging a gun within a structure. Despite his injuries, he was ordered to be held without bond while receiving treatment at Sunrise Hospital.
On June 23, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police received reports of shots fired at the Turnberry Towers on Karen Avenue. Witnesses, including an armed security officer, reported seeing Warrender enter the lobby wearing a motorcycle helmet and carrying a rifle.
Warrender proceeded to fire shots through the glass doors, prompting the security guard to respond with five to seven rounds, ultimately striking Warrender in the chest. The guard successfully detained Warrender until the police arrived at the scene.
Residents and employees at the building revealed that Warrender had been a guest of a resident for over a year. Described as “socially awkward” by one witness, the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Warrender’s next court hearing is scheduled for July 3 as authorities continue to gather evidence and further examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
