Her Las Vegas Home Has Been Hit 8 Times, and She’s Afraid Next Time Will Be Deadly
LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas resident has witnessed dozens of vehicles speeding past her home and eight crashes.
Rose Mary Romero has lived on Marion Drive for over thirty years, and she claims that the speeding and accidents have worsened during the past seven. It’s been two weeks since the last crash.
Romero claims that the hit-and-run occurrences have led to a significant increase in her homeowner’s insurance premiums.
She remarked how absurd it all was.
Romero’s wheelchair-bound neighbor, Lester Coon, expressed concern that he might be ran over if he sat on his porch.
“I feel like I’m stuck in my own home,” Coon added. “Something needs to be done before someone gets killed out here.” When I go outside, walking up and down the sidewalk makes me anxious.
The glass and broken pieces are scattered across the grass in Mary Romero’s front yard. ‘Ridiculous,’ she says.
Romero and her neighbors have started a petition out of fear that someone would be seriously injured or killed. Romero claims she never heard back after delivering the petition to her district’s county commissioner.
To protect children using the street to go to the park, Romero suggested installing speed bumps and possibly a crosswalk.
Locals have voiced a need for both improved lighting and an additional crosswalk with flashing lights, as well as speed bumps. The changes may come too late, in Romero’s opinion.
