LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – As a result of a domino effect of aircraft delays or cancellations caused by extreme weather, thousands of passengers in the United States have numerous stories to share.
Two groups of passengers attempting to return to New Orleans from a trip to Las Vegas say their airline informed them the earliest they could get them home was Thursday or Friday of this week. They informed that there were alternative tickets available on other airlines, but they cost more than $1,000 a piece.
A couple traveled from Utah to Las Vegas on Monday morning to catch a six a.m. flight. Flight to Houston, Texas, was cancelled, as did another one several hours later, and the next flight they were advised they could take wasn’t leaving until Friday, December 30. They stated that they were thinking about going back to Utah and canceling their vacation to Texas.
Others we spoke with expressed dissatisfaction with their airline’s lack of contact about what to do once a flight was canceled, as well as a lack of information about upcoming flights to their destination.
“And our heartfelt apologies for this are just beginning,” read part of the statement.
“We’re working with Safety at the forefront to urgently address wide-scale disruption by rebalancing the airline and repositioning Crews and our fleet ultimately to best serve all who plan to travel with us…We were fully staffed and prepared for the approaching holiday weekend when severe weather swept across the continent,” officials added. These operational challenges necessitated daily revisions to our flight schedule at a volume and magnitude that has left our employees with the tools they need to get the airline back up and running.”
The airline also stated that its staff and crews who were scheduled to work throughout the Christmas season “went above and above.”
