18-year-old McKenzie Scott, a senior at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas, lost her life just weeks before graduation. On May 2, 2025, Scott was struck by a vehicle while walking in a marked crosswalk near her school. The driver, 37-year-old Keenan Jackson, was arrested at the scene and now faces charges including DUI resulting in death, reckless driving, and driving without a valid license.
According to the arrest report, Jackson exhibited signs of significant impairment, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and an unsteady gait. A preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.286—nearly four times Nevada’s legal limit of 0.08.
Witnesses reported that Jackson was speeding and had an unobstructed view of the crosswalk when he struck Scott. Despite the clear visibility, the vehicle failed to yield, resulting in the fatal collision.
Scott, remembered as a bright and ambitious student with aspirations of becoming a crime scene investigator, had secured a full-ride scholarship and was eagerly anticipating her graduation. Her untimely death has left the community in mourning and raised concerns about pedestrian safety near schools.
Jackson appeared in court on May 3, where his bail was set at $500,000. He is scheduled for a status check hearing on May 6.
