Las Vegas Is Under a High-Wind Watch
LAS VEGAS – On Saturday, the weather will dramatically swing when a cold front drives high winds through the Las Vegas valley and neighboring areas.
Winds are predicted to reach speeds of 40-60 miles per hour, with the potential for even greater gusts in more exposed locations like Red Rock Canyon and the Spring Mountains. A high-wind warning has been issued by the National Weather Service from Saturday at 11 am through Saturday at 5 am.
The gusts could be strong enough, according to the weather service, to bring down trees and electrical lines, leading to widespread blackouts. All residents are urged to bring in any valuables stored outside.
The weather agency has warned drivers to expect hazardous road conditions.
Since strong winds are possible, the Clark County Department of Environment and Sustainability has also issued a dust advisory. Pulmonary conditions can be made worse by dust in the air.
