Las Vegas authorities have charged Roberto Olivas, 27, of Las Vegas, after a serious crash that critically injured a 61‑year‑old pedestrian at a bus stop in the west valley.
The Metropolitan Police Department says the collision occurred around 2:24 p.m. near Rampart Boulevard and Vegas Drive. Olivas, driving a Ram 1500 pickup truck, reportedly sped through a right‑turn‑only lane, struck the curb, drove onto the sidewalk, and collided with a bus shelter, a streetlamp, an electrical relay box, and a Henderson man who was waiting at the bus stop. The truck then overturned and came to rest across the roadway. Shortly before that, Olivas was involved in an unrelated hit-and-run crash nearby.
The pedestrian was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Olivas was also transported and assessed; he exhibited signs of impairment, according to police.
In court Tuesday, Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure announced prosecutors have filed criminal charges against Olivas, including DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm, reckless driving with substantial bodily harm, and failure to provide information after an accident. Olivas appeared in custody and was represented by the public defender. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 19, and bail had been set previously at $200,000.
