LAS VEGAS- A Las Vegas man is accused of threatening to blow up and “shoot up” the Walgreens where he worked after being terminated for pursuing a client out of the shop after a brawl.
Jonathan Demaya, 23, was terminated on September 7 after getting into a confrontation with a client. According to Metro police, he got into a disagreement with a customer about the cost of an item, and the customer threw a receipt at him.
According to the police report, Demaya then pursued the customer out of the business, through the parking lot, and along Flamingo Road. When questioned about the dispute, he indicated he was going to “beat his ass,” referring to the client, according to the report.
Demaya was dismissed as a result of this, and he reportedly threw things off shelves, shoved another customer, and left the store before returning with a weapon in his belt, according to the report.
A week later, on Sept. 14, Demaya and his wife went to the business, and an employee told them they couldn’t go inside, prompting Demaya to say, “I don’t give a f—, I’m going to blow up this f—ing building,” according to the report.
When the employee continued to try to diffuse the situation, Demaya said, “I’m not going to stop until I get what I want… I want Walgreens closed down. I’ve got homeboys on standby to shoot up the place,” according to the report.
Two days later, on Sept. 16, police claimed Demaya drove up to the business and drove passed someone standing outside, saying “I’m going to f— shoot you” and acting strangely, according to the report.
The business was finally forced to close because Demaya continued coming, making threats, and leaving personnel “in fear for their lives,” according to the report.
Demaya allegedly contacted the business when it was closed and questioned why before adding, “Well I’m fixing to go blow up the building,” before hanging up.
He was subsequently detained on Sept. 17 and told cops he didn’t make any threats or carry a pistol into the business.
Demaya was being detained at the Clark County Detention Center on Tuesday, where he faces charges of aggressive stalking, transmitting a bomb threat, and making a threat considered an act of terrorism.
