LAS VEGAS – In a recent development, Jesus Ayala, an 18-year-old Las Vegas resident, is now facing an additional attempted murder charge in a separate case following his alleged involvement in the tragic death of cyclist Andreas “Andy” Probst last year. Ayala, along with co-defendant Jzamir Keys, faces a total of 14 felony charges in connection with Probst’s murder. On January 17, Ayala was apprehended and arrested for attempted murder in an earlier incident.
According to a police report, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received a distressing report on June 27, 2023, regarding a stabbing victim who had arrived at UMC seeking medical treatment. The victim had sustained multiple lacerations to his torso and a significant laceration near his left ear.
Initially, the victim informed investigators that he was assaulted by two unidentified individuals who attacked him with brass knuckles. He stated that nothing was taken from him, and the assailants left him lying on the ground.
However, as the investigation progressed, it was discovered that the victim had been taken to UMC by his roommate instead of an ambulance, contrary to his initial statement. Medical records from UMC indicated the following diagnoses:
- Acute traumatic pain
- Multiple stab wounds on the face
- Stab wound on the back
- Assault with a knife
- Pneumothorax on the right side
On June 28, 2023, the police interviewed a witness who recounted an “extremely violent” attack involving approximately five individuals targeting the victim. The attack duration was estimated to be around one minute. The witness speculated that had the assault continued, it likely would have resulted in the victim’s death. The witness described the suspects as being under the age of 18.
Further investigation led authorities to link Jesus Ayala to the assault. A witness identified him as one of the individuals involved, referring to him as one of the “big homies” participating in the attack. On September 19, 2023, the victim positively identified Ayala as the person who had stabbed him during a photo lineup.
The police report mentioned that a knife found at the scene did not yield a suitable fingerprint match with the suspect, and DNA testing is still pending completion.
Ayala’s preliminary hearing for the new attempted murder charge is scheduled for February 28 in Clark County Justice Court. Meanwhile, his other trial related to the murder of Andreas Probst is scheduled to commence on November 12.
