LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – An arrest report stated that a guy is charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a man in the neck in the middle of the street after a confrontation at a middle school in Las Vegas.
Rene Burgos, 33, was detained on Wednesday on counts of attempted murder with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a banned person.
According to the arrest record, Metro police were contacted of a major juvenile brawl in the neighborhood of Hyde Park Middle School on Nov. 18 just before 3:20 p.m. Shortly after, authorities got a complaint of a shooting in the center of traffic on Valley View Boulevard north of Charleston Boulevard, less than half a mile from the reported dispute.
According to the preliminary inquiry, a red automobile with pink stickers on the back window shot a Hispanic guy in the neck who had approached the vehicle on foot.
The victim of the shooting was eventually identified as Miguel Salas, who was brought to UMC Trauma by his son prior to the arrival of the police.
Detectives discovered that three male minors were engaged in the altercation with Salas’s daughter and her pals at Hyde Middle School.
According to the arrest report, the victim’s daughter told officers that she and her friends were fighting at school because of a “excellent street quarrel.” According to the daughter, she was yelling at the boys to stop fighting when she began to be shoved and hit as well.
The lads were observed fleeing the brawl in a red four-door vehicle. According to the police report, Salas’s daughter contacted him to inform him of the situation and then began walking home with one of her friends.
Salas and his son picked them up as they were walking home and told them they were going to drive around looking for the red automobile, according to authorities.
Salas was able to locate the vehicle that had become trapped in traffic on Valley View Boulevard. According to the complaint, Salas got out of the automobile and approached the sedan, confronting the lads and demanding them to get out of the car.
Salas stated in the police report that the individual in the far right rear passenger seat pulled out a semi-automatic weapon and shot him. According to the complaint, the woman driving the red vehicle yelled and drove away “recklessly.”
One of the boys’ grandma was recognized as the woman driving the car. She told authorities that she was instructed to drop the boys off near Hyde Park Middle School, park, and wait for them on a side street.
The grandmother first told police that she was following their directions and that she suspected they were there to fight, which she subsequently verified with the boys.
She stated that after the incident, all three guys sat in the back seat of the sedan, and she then departed the location. She then went on to inform police that while stalled in traffic, she witnessed an adult guy approach her car and dare the youngsters to a fight.
She then heard two gunshots, which she mistook for her own. According to the complaint, she sped away hastily and left the boys off at their apartment complex.
In a second interrogation, the grandmother admitted to police that she had earlier omitted the presence of two other individuals in her car at the time of the shooting, one of which was her son Ryan Arcangel and the other Burgos.
According to the complaint, she informed police that after putting the boys off at school, she departed and picked up her son and Burgos from a nearby petrol station before returning to the school.
Burgos was wearing a black sweatshirt and a black mask at the time of the shooting, according to the report. One of the teenagers in the car told police that as Salas approached the car, Burgos pulled out a revolver and shot him twice in the neck.
Burgos was detained on November 30 near Silverado Boulevard and Maryland Parkway.
Burgos first asked a lawyer to be present during his interrogation, but then told police, “you wouldn’t shoot someone if they stepped up on your car and attempted to open the door?”
“If the individual wasn’t presenting a weapon, I wouldn’t,” the detective said. Burgos then stated, “I wasn’t trying to strike him, I was simply trying to scare him in self-defense.”
Burgos is due to appear in court at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. He is still being jailed without bail.
