Mistaken Identity Shooting Lands Man in Attempted Murder Charges

Las Vegas, NV – January 18, 2024 – A jealous ex-boyfriend’s misplaced rage has landed him in deep trouble after an attempted murder fueled by mistaken identity. Julian Morfin, 19, faces life-altering charges for shooting an innocent man he believed to be his former girlfriend’s date, mistaking him for her sister’s boyfriend.

The harrowing saga unfolded on January 9th around 10:30 PM as the victim, picking up his girlfriend from work, found himself targeted by Morfin’s armed aggression. According to police reports, the victim was pistol-whipped and shot in the head while parked near his girlfriend’s residence. Police found him bleeding profusely, with a fractured skull and a potentially life-threatening brain bleed.

Investigators pieced together a chilling narrative of jealousy and misidentification. Morfin, harboring anger over his recent breakup with the victim’s sister, apparently mistook her boyfriend for his target. The sisters, described as close in age and bearing a resemblance, became unwitting pawns in Morfin’s twisted plan.

Adding to the tragedy, the victim’s girlfriend witnessed the horrifying episode, recognizing the shooter as her sister’s ex-boyfriend and the one who made past threats involving guns. Morfin himself acknowledged his actions in a phone call to his ex, blaming her for “making him do it.”

Driven by remorse and perhaps the weight of his actions, Morfin eventually surrendered to authorities two days later. Now facing charges of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, he sits behind bars with a hefty $250,000 bail.
