LAS VEGAS – Nellis Air Force Base has issued a notification to the residents of the northeast Las Vegas Valley regarding the potential increase in noise caused by military aircraft due to the upcoming Red Flag training exercises.
As per the news release, the Red Flag 23-2 exercise is scheduled to take place from March 12-24 at Nellis Air Force Base. During this training, approximately 100 aircraft will depart from the base twice a day and could remain in the air for up to five hours. Residents are advised to expect aircraft noise during nighttime and weekend launches.
The Saturday launches have been rescheduled for Sunday due to the Israeli Air Force participants observing the Sabbath. The release further states that Nellis Air Force Base will host members from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Air National Guard during the Red Flag 23-2 event.
Officials have announced that the 20th Fighter Wing from Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, will take command as the lead wing over participating aircraft, including the F-35 Lightning II, B-1B Lancer, and E-3G Sentry.
Red Flag events have been hosted by Nellis Air Force Base since 1975, providing aircrews with the opportunity to gain experience in “multiple, intensive air combat sorties in the safety of a training environment.”
