Nevada Stands with ICE: Lombardo Pushes Back on Border Security Critics

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo is once again proving that leadership means taking action, not bowing to partisan talking points. In response to a federal request from the Department of Homeland Security, Lombardo is deploying up to 35 members of the Nevada National Guard to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from early September through mid-November. This mission, entirely voluntary for Guard members, will focus on administrative support—everything from form-filling to vehicle maintenance—freeing up federal agents to do the work they were hired to do: enforce our immigration laws.

While Democrats and immigration activists immediately criticized the move, their objections reflect a growing problem—politics over public safety. Instead of working to secure the border and uphold the law, these voices are more concerned with optics than with solutions. Lombardo, however, has made it clear: Nevada will cooperate with federal authorities to uphold the rule of law and protect its citizens.

Importantly, Lombardo retains full control of Nevada’s Guard, ensuring that this mission remains in line with state priorities. The operation mirrors the Guard’s 2020 pandemic role in supporting health departments with testing and vaccinations—proof that our National Guard is capable, adaptable, and ready to serve where needed.

Critics love to portray any cooperation with ICE as somehow extreme. But the truth is, without secure borders and effective enforcement, we weaken the very foundation of national sovereignty. This partnership is about efficiency, security, and fulfilling a duty to the American people. Nevada’s leadership is showing that when the federal government needs help enforcing the law, our state will answer the call—politics aside.
