An animal welfare organization is seeking assistance in caring for over 300 dogs who were recently rescued from a Nye County ranch.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA, reports a critical shortage of Nevada-licensed veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and assistants.

An ASPCA spokesman stated in an email that several of the dogs recovered from Amargosa Valley last month seemed famished and suffering from untreated medical ailments.

Additional assistance is required to help the dogs recover from their injuries. The ASPCA believes that up to 20 people would be needed every day to assist with general care, assessments, and treatment.

Anyone having availability and experience to help between now and the end of September should contact the Nye County Sheriff’s Office at sheriff@co.nye.nv.us.

The dogs were discovered on the farm of Vasili Platunov and Oksana Higgins in Amargosa Valley. The dogs have been transported to the county’s animal shelter in Pahrump, where Platunov and Higgins are facing various animal cruelty charges.

As the judicial procedure unfolds and the animals are rehabilitated, none of the dogs are available for adoption.
