LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – On Tuesday, officers from the LVMPD Convention Center Area Command had a very special visitor.
Officer Shay Mikalonis, according to a Facebook post from LVMPD CCAC, paid a visit to the group during a briefing.
“He attended one of our briefings and got an opportunity to hang out with his fellow brothers and sisters,” the Facebook post said.
On June 1, 2020, Officer Mikalonis was shot and crippled while attending to a demonstration near downtown Las Vegas.
Authorities earlier stated that the bullet passed through Mikalonis’ spine before striking him in the face. He had treatment in Colorado before returning to Las Vegas in 2021.
Edgar Samaniego, the guy who shot Officer Mikalonis, pled guilty to attempted murder with a dangerous weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon in November 2021.
Judge Carli Kierny condemned Samaniego to 20-50 years in jail last April.
Officer Mikalonis was present in court to see Samaniego’s sentencing.
