In a case that has stirred significant public outrage, Alexis Flores, 30, was arrested after being caught on surveillance footage throwing a small dog into a dumpster in Las Vegas. The incident occurred on April 14 near the 5500 block of Sheila Avenue. The video shows a shirtless man in red shorts exiting a vehicle, carrying the dog by the neck, and forcefully discarding it into a residential dumpster. He then closed the lid and drove away.
The dog, later named Atreyu, was discovered over 24 hours later by a resident and is now recovering under the care of Vegas Pet Rescue Project. Flores was charged with three felony counts of willful/malicious torture/maim/kill of an animal. Despite the severity of the charges, he was released from the Clark County Detention Center after paying a $50 fee to a bail bondsman on a $9,000 bail.
This incident has reignited discussions about the adequacy of animal cruelty laws in Nevada. Advocates are pushing for “Reba’s Law,” legislation aimed at imposing stricter penalties for such acts. The community is calling for justice and questioning how someone accused of such a heinous act could be released so quickly and with minimal financial obligation.
