LAS VEGAS – The Clark County coroner’s office has confirmed that three sets of human skeletal remains found at Lake Mead in the summer of 2022 belong to a man who went missing in 1998. The man has been identified as Claude Pensinger, 52, from Las Vegas. According to a news article from July 20, 1998, Pensinger had disappeared from his boat, which was found running in circles just off Boulder Beach. Park visitors discovered Pensinger’s remains near the shoreline on three separate occasions: July 25, August 6, and August 16.

Despite the identification, the coroner’s office has yet to determine the cause and manner of Pensinger’s death. In a separate case, the remains of a man found in a barrel at Hemenway Harbor in May of last year have yet to be identified. The death of that man, who died from a gunshot wound, was ruled a homicide.
