Reno Police Sergeant Arrested for Domestic Violence and Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Reno Police Sergeant Vincent Robles was arrested on November 27, 2024, on charges of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon. Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance confirmed that Robles was off duty at the time of the incident.

“On November 27, 2024, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) notified the Reno Police Department (RPD) of a domestic violence investigation that occurred within their jurisdiction involving an RPD sergeant who was off duty at the time of the incident,” Nance said. “Upon notification, RPD immediately removed the sergeant from duty and initiated an internal affairs investigation.”

Robles was later arrested and booked into jail by WCSO, but law enforcement agencies, including the RPD and district attorney’s office, have declined to provide further details, citing ongoing investigations. “Due to the internal affairs investigation, RPD cannot release any additional information about the personnel matter at this time,” Nance added.

When asked for details, District Attorney spokesperson Kendall Holcomb said, “The Sheriff’s Office made an arrest and, like any case, our office is reviewing the matter to make an appropriate charging decision.”

Concerns About Transparency

WCSO completed its investigation into the incident but refused to release public records, stating that such documents would only be available after the case has “been adjudicated.” This practice has raised concerns about transparency in cases involving law enforcement officers.

Chief Nance reiterated the department’s commitment to accountability. “We hold all members of our department to the highest professional standards and expectations and will continue cooperating with the WCSO in their investigation,” she said.

This week, This Is Reno also reported that a former RPD officer is facing federal charges for allegedly taking explicit images from a woman’s phone during a traffic stop. In another case, an RPD detective was sued in federal court for alleged civil rights violations after a wedding photographer claimed she was wrongfully arrested while out of state.

A Broader Issue in Law Enforcement

Domestic violence within police departments is a significant and troubling issue. A 2022 report by Fatherly found that police officers in the United States commit acts of domestic violence at approximately 15 times the rate of the general population. However, a culture of silence often skews data and hinders accountability.

  • Without transparency there cannot be true justice. I think this Sergeants’s police record should be evaluated and every arrest scrutinized as it sounds to me like he could be one of those tyrant cops that make up stuff to validate an arrest, and the lack,of transparency by RPD is a bit disturbing as it’s obvious they are trying to cover up things to eliminate anyone saying anything negative, so it seems
