LAS VEGAS – Over 100 students at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts staged a Friday walkout demanding pay increases for their teachers. The demonstration occurred in front of the school’s main entrance in downtown Las Vegas, with school staff supervising the event.
Carrying signs from the Clark County Education Association and homemade placards, students passionately chanted slogans such as “Pay our teachers” and “Do what’s fair. The money is there.” This protest comes after the Clark County School District declared an impasse in contract negotiations with the teachers union, which has led to the matter heading for arbitration.
Since July, union members have been protesting for teacher pay raises, and several student walkouts have taken place at various schools throughout the district.
The students’ involvement highlights their support for educators and the importance of resolving these negotiations.
