Sunday evening in North Las Vegas ended in tragedy when a 16-year-old riding a moped collided with a car, resulting in his death. The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Gowan Road and Pecos Road. According to North Las Vegas police, a Toyota Scion traveling westbound on Gowan attempted a left turn onto southbound Pecos while a moped approached from the opposite direction. Surveillance footage suggests the moped was traveling at high speed at the time of the crash. Although the moped had the right of way, investigators note that the teen’s speed may have contributed to the collision. Impairment was not suspected. The teen was transported to University Medical Center, where he later died. Authorities report that they continue to investigate the collision, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the teen’s identity and the official cause and manner of death.
