LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – The Las Vegas Rescue Mission has been serving a special Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of people in the community for over 50 years.
“I love you, God Bless you, and Happy Thanksgiving,” said first-time guest Erika Jackson as she gave the blessing.
“Last year, I was on my own, in my apartment with my children for Thanksgiving, and I’ll tell you, I had everything there was to have,” she said.
Despite the fact that this year has been a little challenging, she claims that all she needs is a place where she can gather with her kids for a hearty meal.
“When you sit here, these volunteers serve you, and there’s love here, and these volunteers that come out here, there’s love here because everybody here is a reason to be blessed,” Jackson said.
Elaine Scroggins says she was homeless and addicted to heroin for years before becoming a volunteer. She became sober with the assistance of Rescue Mission’s treatment programs.
“I still live here, but being here is amazing, and seeing the people being helped. This place saved my life,” the volunteer said.
Her family will finally reunite with her for Thanksgiving for the first time in seven years.
“Tomorrow, I get to see my sons. They’re going to pick me up, and we’re going to have dinner. I’m so thankful. I’m so thankful,” Scroggins said.
The Las Vegas Rescue Mission can be reached at 480 West Bonanza Rd. Las Vegas, NV 89106, and you can reach its staff at (702) 382-1766.
