Woman From Las Vegas Was Jailed on Murder Charges After a Video Contradicted Her Claim of Self-Defense

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Police video footage contradicted a Las Vegas woman’s claim of self-defense after she shot her boyfriend in August.

Kimberly Warth, 41, also known as Kimberly Bellingar in the report, was arrested on a murder charge on Tuesday, according to the arrest record.

This arrest comes two months after the death of her boyfriend, John Welsh, 58,  who was also her biological child’s adoptive father. Welsh adopted Warth’s children fourteen years after she had lost custody of them.

After Warth made an attempt to reunite with her children, the two ultimately established contact and began living together in December of last year.

Warth and Welsh had an argument on August 12 after she informed him she was going to seek for legal custody of her daughter, according to police. This disagreement arose because Warth suspected Welsh of having a drinking problem.

Welsh allegedly warned Warth, “You will die before you take her away from me.”

Warth first told police that on August 17, Welsh came after her with a huge kitchen knife wrapped in a towel. She said she pulled out a revolver and urged Welsh to “stop, back up, or she would protect herself.”

Welsh immediately came towards Warth with the knife raised, at which time she “lifted the gun, closed her eyes, and shot twice,” according to Warth.

As Warth and her daughter were leaving the house, she dialed 911. A butcher knife was discovered near to Welsh’s body when police arrived.

During the inquiry, authorities discovered two video cameras connected to Welsh’s workstation. When the tape was reviewed, police discovered that it contradicted Warth’s first account.

Warth was questioned again on October 4. Detectives questioned her if she wanted to amend her narrative after she told them the same one about Welsh coming after her with a knife. They then informed her about the video and audio recordings made by Welsh’s camera.

Because the video contradicted Warth’s version of what happened, she was charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

Warth later informed authorities that Welsh had never been physically abusive to her in the past. According to the article, she was scared of what Welsh could do, which motivated her to shoot him.

She confessed that Welsh was unarmed and that she had retrieved the kitchen knife after the shooting and thrown it beside his corpse.

Warth is expected to show up in court on Monday.
