A Missouri prosecutor has charged a suspect in the fatal shooting of a senior Central Methodist University football player.
According to online court documents, Kundarrius Taylor, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his roommate, Torrance Evans. Evans played offensive line for the CMU football team.
During Saturday’s football game, the team observed a moment of silence in memory of Evans. A group of students also held a fundraiser outside the game’s entrance to help with his funeral expenses.
Police responded to a shooting report at a home in Fayette on Thursday night and discovered Evans’ body inside the front door.
According to a witness, Taylor admitted to the shooting.
Taylor was arrested when he returned to his home, according to a probable cause statement.
Taylor told police in an interview that he and Evans had not been getting along for over a month and that he felt Evans had disrespected him on numerous occasions, according to the statement.
According to police, an argument turned into a fight in which Taylor shot Evans twice.
Joe Parisi, CMU’s Vice President for Enrollment Management and Athletics, stated that Taylor was a former student seeking readmission. He and Evans are both from Memphis, Tennessee.
Taylor will appear in court on Tuesday. He is being detained without bail.
