NEVADA – The Elko Bomb Squad, Bureau of Land Management, and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, along with other agencies, rushed to Paradise Valley on Wednesday after receiving reports of dynamite found in an abandoned mine shaft.

According to the Elko Police Department, a group of children had stumbled upon the dynamite while exploring the mine. Upon discovering the potentially hazardous situation, authorities immediately entered the mine and safely disposed of the dynamite, as well as the blasting caps scattered on the ground.

As a precautionary measure, the Bureau of Land Management has decided to close off access to the mine.

In light of this incident, Elko police are issuing a warning to the public, urging them to refrain from entering mines. These areas pose various risks, including bad air quality, the potential for cave-ins, and the risk of contracting Hantavirus from rodents commonly found in such environments. The authorities stress that entering abandoned mines is never safe and should be avoided at all costs.
