Groundbreaking for Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center at Damonte Ranch

RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – On Thursday, Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the opening of its third Freestanding Emergency Department.

CEO Alan Olive described it as a community investment and stated that it will solve regional gaps in healthcare that he and his family have encountered.

“I raise my family here in South Reno, and obviously we’ve had to go to the emergency room quite a few times” he said. “So it would have been great if this was here when our kids were growing up.”

The groundbreaking takes place just one month before the medical institution hopes to open its new Spanish Springs emergency department.

Olive and Dr. Travis Anderson, an ER physician at the clinic, both stated that the additions will help Reno’s community thrive.

“Fortunately with these emergency departments, by offloading the volume at other emergency departments, we are able to take the time to really care for the patient as a whole human being,” Anderson said.

The new ER at Damonte Ranch on Steamboat Parkway is scheduled to open one year after construction begins and will provide South Reno residents with 24-hour emergency care, diagnostic imaging, and lab services.

When finished, the FED will address medical issues such as chest discomfort, broken bones, small injuries, asthma, allergic reactions, the flu, and other diseases.

There are additional nine patient rooms.

“That’s what’s hard about the emergency department, is, anyone that comes in, it’s probably their worst day ever. And it is their emergency, so we are treating people that are sick and ill and in pain, and are generally not happy. So what we try to do is meet all of their needs and concerns and not just their medical complaints,” says Dr. Anderson.

Board-certified physicians and emergency room nurses will staff the new hospital. The facility will also include a lab on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as diagnostic imaging such as X-ray, CT, and ultrasound.
