NEVADA – The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees has greenlit a groundbreaking collective bargaining agreement with the Washoe Education Support Professionals (WESP). This agreement translates to a remarkable double-digit pay raise for more than 2,500 frontline education support workers, including bus drivers, teacher assistants, and nutrition services personnel.
Beth Smith, President of the Washoe County Board, expressed gratitude towards these essential employees, highlighting their invaluable contributions to students and staff. The newly approved contract offers a substantial 13.2% salary increase in the first year, further enhanced by an anticipated 4% in matching funds from the State of Nevada, as specified by SB231.
In total, the salary increments for the WESP bargaining unit will see an impressive 17% boost in the initial year of this four-year agreement. Over the subsequent three years, members will receive annual pay increases of 2%. This agreement is set to remain in effect until June 30, 2027.
Susan Enfield, Superintendent of WCSD, shared the excitement about reaching this significant milestone, emphasizing that this salary increase has been long overdue and is extremely well-deserved by the dedicated support professionals on Team WCSD.
