Legislature Considers Nevada Bill That Would Shield Abortion Providers From Government Actions

NEVADA – The Nevada Legislature’s Committee on Commerce and Labor is debating a bill that, if passed, would prohibit healthcare professionals from being punished for providing certain reproductive services such as abortions.

SB131, which the committee addressed on Monday, would also ban the governor or state agencies from surrendering or issuing an arrest warrant for someone accused with a criminal infraction involving the same services in another state.

Pregnancy, contraception, termination of pregnancy, or any operation or care recommended by a qualified medical expert are all examples of reproductive healthcare services mentioned in the bill.

It would also ban medical boards from penalizing someone in Nevada or any other state for providing or assisting in certain reproductive healthcare services.

Nonetheless, the bill would neither preclude or hinder the prosecution of any persons who may have broken their local abortion laws.
