NEVADA – The Nevada Division of Forestry recently held wildfire training with 47 rookie firefighters to prepare them for the upcoming fire season. The training included cutting firelines, coordinating with helicopters, and fire mitigation, with a focus on water supply and hose pumping. The training consisted of 12- to 16-hour days and included both classroom and hands-on learning.

According to Kacey KC, state forester and firewarden with the NDF, the expected fire season this year will be average with lower elevation fires anticipated due to the large snowpack from this winter. However, no fire season can be predicted, and residents are encouraged to continue to be cautious and respect red flag warnings.
