Power Outage in Midtown Caused by an Electric Transformer Explosion

NEVADA – Reno Fire responded to a transformer explosion in a Midtown neighborhood around Plumas Street and St. Lawrence.

It occurred about 10 a.m. on December 4, 2022.

According to Reno Fire Department officials, a bird sat on a power line, causing it to spark. This resulted in the collapse of high and low-voltage electrical cables.

A transformer-powered line blew up, causing more power lines to fall onto people’s cars and the street.

Some residents’ electrical boxes blew up as a result of the explosion.

According to NV Energy, up to 6,000 customers are affected, and they do not know when electricity will be restored.
