RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – Darin Balaam, Sheriff of Washoe County, has been sworn in for his second term. He ran uncontested and will begin his new term in January.
Sheriff Balaam was accompanied by his wife, a former Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputy, his children, and other family members. Balaam considers it a privilege to be able to fill his father’s shoes for another four years.
Sheriff Balaam has been with the Sheriff’s Office for almost two decades. He began his career in law enforcement at the age of 21. He believes the most important issues he wants to address throughout the county are mental health, narcotics, violent crime, and homelessness.
Recently, Washoe County Commissioners passed an ordinance sponsored by Sheriff Balaam that prohibits non-recreational camping in unincorporated areas of the county.
“Part of our job is making an impact,” said Sheriff Balaam. “Watching over the last four years and having the opportunity to lead this organization is something I’ll always cherish. The opportunity to do it for another four is something truly special for me and my family.”
Sheriff Balaam says the Sheriff’s Office is finishing its four-year strategic plan. He said the strategy includes strategies for the Sheriff’s Office to connect with the community and enhance technology.
