Assemblywoman Jauregui Backs $53M Universal School Breakfast And Lunch Program

Jauregui: ‘No student should ever go hungry in the classroom’

Democratic Assembly Majority Leader Sandra Jauregui (AD-41)

“No student should ever go hungry in the classroom” tweets Democratic Assembly Majority Leader Sandra Jauregui (AD-41) upon news of her introducing a bill draft request for a $53 million appropriation for Universal School Breakfast and Lunch program.

The approximate $53 million appropriation would provide all students with “nutritious meals, no matter their zip code, regardless of their family’s financial status.”

In a statement through her caucus, Jauregui notes: “…this program will ensure that every child in Nevada has access to the nutrition they need to thrive.  We owe it to our students to provide them with a quality education and research shows part of that is ensuring they do not go hungry. By providing universal access to breakfast and lunch, we recognize the importance of education and the health of all Nevada students.”

This appropriation is in addition to the $250 million the Democratic majority is requesting to increase teacher and support staff salaries and an addition to the historic $2 billion Governor Joe Lombardo has promised to fix the failing Nevada public school system.
