According to a report from Help Advisor, Nevada has the second highest grocery bill in the country, with Californian’s spending the most each week at the grocery store.

On average, Nevadans spend $294.76 a week/$1,179 a month on groceries. Household with children spend 41 percent more, with a four-person household spending an average of $315.22 per week.

Americans of Hispanic or Latino ethnicity report the highest average weekly spending on groceries, at $325.67 per week.

Households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits report an average weekly grocery spending of $306.50, or about 16% higher than households that do not.

Households that receive benefits from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program spend an average of $349.95 per week, or roughly 32% higher than households that do not receive such benefits.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the consumer price index for food at home was up 1.7% year-over-year in November 2023.The data is based on the most recent report available from the U.S. Census Bureau Household Pulse Survey.

In July 2022, Nevada ranked the 5th highest in grocery store expenditures. At that time, Nevadans spent $8,107 every year on groceries. According to this study, Nevadans are now paying $14,148.48 per year, nearly double what they were paying nearly two years ago.

As reported by The Globe, the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) released their monthly State Inflation Tracker that shows Nevadans are spending an extra $13,334 a year just to maintain the same standard of living they enjoyed in January of 2021, right before inflation soared to 40-year highs, according to a recent analysis of government data.

Back in November, 2023, The Globe reported that Nevadans are spending over $13,296 per household due to “Bidenomics.” In May 2022, The Globe reported that Nevadan households were hit the hardest by inflation. At that time, Nevadans were paying an additional $8,231 annually for basic household expenses.

Cumulatively, Nevadans have been taxed an additional $26,614 due to inflation under the Biden Administration, according to the JEC’s estimates.
