Las Vegas Community Mourns Mother Lost in Tragic Crash

The Las Vegas community is reeling after a deadly car crash on Cheyenne Avenue in the northwest valley claimed the life of a mother and left her children injured.

The single-vehicle accident occurred on Sunday morning in the eastbound lane near Shadow Peak Road, just off I-215. Nevada State Police confirmed that a woman died at the scene, while three children were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, Nevada State Police urged drivers to prioritize safety on the roads, emphasizing the importance of slowing down, avoiding distractions, and wearing seatbelts.

The identity of the deceased woman has not been officially released by the Clark County Coroner. However, a close friend and co-worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, identified her as Samyia Johnson.

News of the tragedy resonated with Las Vegas resident Ryan Rappaport, a father of three. “Hearing about the children witnessing this accident is heartbreaking,” he shared. “It makes you extra cautious when you have your own kids in the car.”

Rappaport also expressed concerns about the design of the eastbound lane on Cheyenne Avenue, specifically the pass-through right lane that eliminates the need to stop at lights. “It creates confusion and I’ve seen accidents there before,” he said.

Johnson’s co-worker described her as a kind and caring friend and mother. A vigil was held at her workplace on Monday, and a makeshift memorial with roses has been created at the crash site.

The family is requesting the community’s support during this difficult time, particularly with helping care for the injured children.
