New Memorial Highway Signs Honor Nevada Troopers Killed in the Line of Duty

Nevada State Police unveiled new memorial highway signs on Monday, dedicated to the memories of Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix who were killed in the line of duty last year.

The department shared photos of the signs on social media, which bear the names of both troopers. Abbate and Felix were tragically struck and killed while responding to a car on the shoulder of a Las Vegas freeway in November 2023. The driver responsible, Jemarcus Williams, pleaded guilty to two counts of DUI resulting in death and was sentenced to prison last week.

The unveiling ceremony included the troopers’ families, who joined the Nevada State Police to pay their respects. The department revealed that Trooper Felix’s sign will be placed near Craig Road and Nellis Air Force Base, honoring his service in the U.S. Air Force before joining the force.

Sergeant Abbate’s sign will be located near Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a fitting tribute to his passion for racing and his work as an emergency vehicle driving instructor.
