Accused Predator Flees to Israel; Judge Mandates Zoom Hearings

When an Israeli cybersecurity official skipped his court arraignment in Nevada, concerns about fairness in the justice system came into sharp focus. Tom Artiom Alexandrovich, a senior figure in Israel’s Cyber Directorate, was arrested in a sting operation for allegedly attempting to lure a minor online. He posted a $10,000 bail and flew back to Israel shortly afterward. His attorney claimed prosecutors had reached an agreement for his absence, but Justice of the Peace Barbara Schifalacqua was clear that court appearances cannot be waived without the judge’s approval. Consequently, Alexandrovich must now attend future hearings by Zoom. Critics—led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene—are calling out what they see as elite treatment for foreign symbols. Acting US Attorney Sigal Chattah echoed that sentiment, slamming local officials for failing to require a passport surrender. Meanwhile, Clark County DA Steve Wolfson insists the bail process was completely standard, underscoring that this was simply bail procedures at work. The optics are alarming though. In the land of equal justice, an international official accused of sexual misconduct with a minor skips town without facing a judge in person. Nevada must restore confidence in its courts and make accountability its priority.
