In a historic move, the Nevada State Democratic Party announced on Monday that all 49 of its delegates will support Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination. This unanimous backing comes after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race on Sunday, paving the way for Harris to become the presumptive nominee.
Nevada State Democratic Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno emphasized the significance of this decision, stating, “Nevada Democrats never take any vote for granted, which is why we invested early in a ground game that will send Kamala Harris to the White House and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.”
Monroe-Moreno expressed confidence in Harris’s leadership and the party’s readiness to make history with her nomination. The delegates’ official vote will take place next month during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
With the Democratic National Convention approaching, the Nevada Secretary of State’s office has reminded major parties that they have until the close of business on Tuesday, Sept. 3, to submit the names of their nominees for president and vice president. As of Monday, neither the Democratic nor the Republican parties had submitted their nominees, according to a spokesperson for the office.
This support from Nevada’s delegates solidifies Harris’s position as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, setting the stage for a significant election season.
