A bicyclist was killed late Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction in the northwest Las Vegas Valley, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The crash occurred near North Shaumber Road and West Grand Teton Drive around midnight. Investigators said the driver of a passenger vehicle was heading south in the northbound lanes when the collision occurred. Emergency responders pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene.
Police believe the driver may have been impaired at the time of the crash. The motorist was taken into custody as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name pending notification of relatives.
The crash marks another fatal incident involving suspected impairment in Clark County this year. Metro police are reminding the public that driving under the influence remains one of the leading causes of deadly collisions in the Las Vegas area.
