Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) reported a busy day on Wednesday with three separate crashes resulting in multiple injuries.
Pedestrian Struck in Crosswalk
The most serious incident involved a pedestrian struck in a crosswalk on Wednesday morning. According to LVMPD, a driver in a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban failed to yield to a pedestrian crossing Owens Ave. east of Stocker at around 11:07 AM. The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit. The driver showed no signs of impairment and the crash remains under investigation.
Multi-Vehicle Crash at Charleston and Durango
Later that evening, LVMPD investigated a six-vehicle crash at the intersection of Charleston and Durango around 7:06 PM. Five people were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and are all expected to be released. Police took one person suspected of driving under the influence into custody. LVMPD Traffic is handling the ongoing investigation.
Skateboarder Critically Injured in Deer Springs Way Crash
A pedestrian riding a skateboard was critically injured after being struck by a pickup truck on Deer Springs Way near Durango Drive at approximately 5:04 PM. The skateboarder was reportedly crossing outside of a marked crosswalk in heavy traffic. The driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. The LVMPD Collision Investigation Section is investigating this crash.
These incidents highlight the importance of road safety for drivers and pedestrians in Las Vegas. LVMPD reminds everyone to obey traffic laws, yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
