LAS VEGAS – With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, fireworks booths across the valley are preparing for the festivities by stocking up on a variety of sparklers and ground fireworks. However, Clark County is reminding the public to prioritize safety and legality when celebrating, launching its “You Light It, We Write It” campaign on Wednesday.
The county’s campaign aims to raise awareness about the risks associated with illegal fireworks and the potential consequences of their use. In a public service announcement, Clark County Fire Chief John Steinbeck emphasized the dangers posed by illegal fireworks, including the risk of fires, injuries, and the disturbance caused to seniors, pet owners, and individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
To deter the use of illegal fireworks, hefty fines have been implemented. Violators can face fines ranging from $500 to $10,000, depending on the quantity of illegally purchased or possessed fireworks. The “You Light It, We Write It” campaign serves as a reminder that the costs of illegal fireworks extend beyond monetary penalties, with potential harm to people’s lives and properties.
In Southern Nevada, only Safe and Sane fireworks, which have undergone inspection, are permitted for use. However, officials stress the importance of using even legal fireworks with caution to prevent accidents and fires. It is crucial to adhere to guidelines and safety instructions provided with the fireworks to ensure a safe celebration for everyone.
It’s important to note that legal fireworks are strictly prohibited on public lands, including popular locations such as Red Rock, Mt. Charleston, and Lake Mead. Authorities urge residents to respect these regulations to protect the environment and preserve public safety.
To combat the use of illegal fireworks, the community is encouraged to report any sightings or incidents to iSpyFireworks.com or by calling 311. By working together, residents can contribute to maintaining a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July celebration for all.
Let’s make this Independence Day memorable for the right reasons, prioritizing safety, and celebrating responsibly.
