LAS VEGAS, NV — A nearly year-long investigation into a gang-fueled shooting that claimed the life of an innocent North Las Vegas barber has reached a major milestone. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police announced today that the ninth and final suspect, Jamar Holman, 33, was taken into custody over the weekend, effectively closing the arrest phase of the case.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 9, 2025, saw more than 30 rounds fired into a garage in the 6000 block of Coja Street. The target was reportedly a rival gang member associated with a local rap group. However, the gunfire instead struck Michael Simmons, a beloved barber at Faded Barbershop, who was at the location and had no ties to the ongoing feud.

Detectives utilized social media and rap music videos to piece together the events of the “rap beef” that led to the violence. According to LVMPD, the shooting was a coordinated “friendly fire” style hit between rival factions.

Holman’s arrest follows the indictment of eight other individuals earlier this spring on charges ranging from open murder with a deadly weapon to conspiracy to commit murder. With Holman now in processing at the Clark County Detention Center, prosecutors are preparing to move the sprawling case toward a consolidated trial.

Simmons’ death previously sparked community-wide protests and fundraisers, highlighting the collateral damage of gang violence in Southern Nevada. His former colleagues at Faded Barbershop maintain a memorial at his station to this day.
