Governor Joe Lombardo is urging Nevada families to take advantage of the free school meals available to most students in the state. In a letter released on Wednesday, Lombardo highlighted that 80.6% of Nevada’s students are automatically eligible for these meals through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) at their schools. Any student enrolled in another federal assistance program is also automatically qualified.
Lombardo emphasized that ensuring a safe and secure learning environment includes providing access to free or reduced-price meals for those in need. He expressed gratitude for the robust programs already in place to ensure these students receive free school meals.
While most schools in Clark County offer free meals, families in counties like Washoe, Elko, and Carson City, where not all schools participate in the CEP, can still apply for free or reduced-price meals through the Application for Free and Reduced-Price School Meals.
The governor’s letter also outlined his administration’s significant investments in education. Last year, over $12 billion was allocated for K-12 education, increasing per-pupil funding by 25%, representing the largest education investment in Nevada’s history.
The letter concluded by highlighting the importance of ensuring access to nutritious meals for students, aiding their success and learning outcomes.
A list of charter schools participating in the CEP was also provided, and families at the Bureau of Indian Education Schools are encouraged to contact their respective schools for further information on Free and Reduced-Price School Meals.

A lot of the veggie burgers (which often contain more sodium, fat and calories than “real” burgers). are not available at fast food places anymore. Some grocery stores that featured “healthy food” went out of business.
