Las Vegas Man Arrested After Shooting Injures Three Teens

Las Vegas police have arrested a 25-year-old man, Novantea Cordero, in connection with a shooting that injured three teenagers last Friday evening.

Shots Fired After Renewed Fight

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the incident occurred on April 12th around 9:21 PM. Multiple 911 calls alerted dispatch to gunfire in a local neighborhood.

Initial reports indicated a 13-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm and neck. He was transported to UMC Hospital for treatment. Investigators later learned that another teen, a girl, had also been taken to UMC by her mother.

Investigation Reveals Disturbing Details

Police investigations revealed the shooting stemmed from a prior altercation between two girls earlier that day. Police and security officers had intervened to break up the fight at the time. However, the victims’ group reportedly reconvened at the scene later that evening, intending to “settle the score.”

Witness statements paint a harrowing picture. Upon arrival, the teens were met by a man, later identified as Cordero, who yelled at them and threatened violence if they approached “four cars deep.”

Less than two minutes after exiting their vehicles, the victims reported gunfire erupting. Chaos ensued as the group scattered and sought cover.

Bullets Strike Homes and Teens

A victim recounted fearing for their life, describing bullets “flying by my ears” as they hid in nearby bushes. Tragically, the victim witnessed their cousin being shot in the leg, and another young person struck as they ran for cover.

The investigation further revealed that stray bullets penetrated two nearby residences – one passing through a garage and into a kitchen cabinet, the other through a second-story window. Thankfully, no residents were injured.

Cordero Apprehended and Facing Charges

Police apprehended Cordero on Sunday, April 14th. A search of his residence yielded 9mm cartridges, a Glock 9mm handgun, a magazine, and blood-stained clothing.

Cordero faces a multitude of charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm into an occupied structure. His initial court appearance occurred on Wednesday, April 17th, with a follow-up scheduled for May 2nd.

This senseless act of violence has left several teenagers physically and emotionally wounded. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of escalating conflicts.
