Law Enforcement Uncovers Suspected East Side Biolab Linked to Previous Fugitive

LAS VEGAS — A joint investigation between the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI took a dramatic turn this week as authorities confirmed the discovery of a suspected unauthorized biolaboratory at a residence on the city’s east side. SWAT teams executed a search warrant over the weekend, discovering refrigerators filled with unidentified biological materials and vials containing unknown liquids.
The investigation has revealed a connection to Jia Bei Zhu, an individual previously arrested in 2023 for operating an illegal biolab in California. While the property manager of the Las Vegas residence has been taken into custody, the owner’s legal counsel maintains that Zhu has been in federal custody for years and denies any involvement in the local operation. Sheriff Kevin McMahill emphasized that while hazmat teams remain on-site to process the evidence, there is no immediate biological threat to the surrounding neighborhood or the general public.
