LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) –Investigators says, a homeless guy is facing felony charges after reportedly infiltrating an elderly man’s house and kidnapped him for hours including showering in the flat before fleeing with the victim’s valuables.
Nathan Maynard, 33, is charged with domestic assault, robbery, abduction, and burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, as well as possession of a stolen debit card, for the alleged Oct. 28 incident.
Maynard was arrested Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday. He is being detained without bond at the Clark County Detention Center.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the following incidents occurred as a result of their investigations:
At around 1 p.m. On October 28, the claimed victim was standing on his apartment balcony between East Windmill Lane and South Las Vegas Boulevard when he noticed a guy, subsequently identified as Maynard, depart a car and walk out of sight.
He afterwards saw Maynard hurry towards him, leap onto the balcony, and say, “Keep your voice low, do as I tell you, or I will murder you.”
Maynard forced the victim to lie down in the bathroom while he looked through the man’s prescription bottles and stole some Oxycodone.
As Maynard walked around the house, the victim would peep from the toilet, snatching the man’s cellphone and make calls from it while looting clothes, jewelry, identity cards, and other items.
The man tried to close and lock the bathroom door but Maynard forced it open, then had a shower while forcing the man to stay in the bathroom before taking clothing from his bedroom.
At one point, the victim begged Maynard to let him die because he was experiencing a heart attack.
Maynard instructed the man to hand up his wristwatch. After some time, the guy emerged from the toilet to see that Maynard had gone from the balcony after barricading the flat door with items. The victim walked to a neighbor to call for aid.
Police inspected the flat and discovered Maynard’s abandoned garments, some of which still had security tags on them, as well as an unused condom. Maynard was seen racing to the victim’s balcony on video footage from the apartment cameras outside.
On Nov. 2, Maynard was photographed at a Las Vegas vape shop purchasing a glass pipe and leaving behind the victim’s passport, Medicaid card, ministerial ordination card, and Social Security card, among other items. Following the discovery of the materials, employees informed the police.
They were able to identify Maynard after being given a lineup of suspects, with one employee commenting, “Because he appears youthful yet elderly at the same time.”
On Tuesday, authorities discovered Maynard at a homeless camp near West Flamingo Road and West Rochelle Avenue, still dressed in the exact clothing he was observed wearing inside the vape store.
When questioned by authorities, Maynard was hesitant to answer and stated that he “did not recall doing anything like that” in relation to the suspected house invasion before chatting for many minutes about his heroin and meth addiction.
“After, Nathan made a comment to me that he vaguely remembers… that he should keep his mouth shut and will be sent back to prison for this,” the report reads.
When offered the chance to apologize to the victim, Maynard declined, “simply expressing that he was sorry.”
Maynard’s next court appearance is set on December 19. If convicted and handed the maximum term, he risks life in jail without the possibility of release.
