Former Las Vegas City Councilwoman and Nye County Justice of the Peace Michele Fiore has been convicted on six counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The charges stem from allegations that she misappropriated over $70,000 in donations intended for a memorial statue honoring fallen Las Vegas police officer Alyn Beck. Instead, the funds were reportedly used for personal expenses, including rent, cosmetic procedures, and her daughter’s wedding .
Fiore’s requests for acquittal and a new trial were denied by U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer Dorsey, who stated that the evidence presented was sufficient to support the jury’s verdict. The judge emphasized that Fiore’s actions constituted a deliberate scheme to defraud donors .
Sentencing is scheduled for May 14, where Fiore faces up to 140 years in prison.
