Motorists Should Brace for I-15 Labor Day Weekend Traffic

Officials say emergency road maintenance along the Nevada-California border won’t affect Labor Day traffic.
Floods last week damaged a bridge south of Nipton Road in Mountain Pass, Caltrans tweeted Monday.
Work on I-15 southbound has reduced traffic to one lane. That disrupted weekend travelers from Las Vegas to Southern California.
Caltrans doesn’t expect the Aug. 24 work to continue into the holiday weekend.
Caltrans expects to reopen the bridge by Thursday… if not sooner, said spokesperson Will Arnold. “Caltrans won’t work over Labor Day weekend.”
11 miles south of the Nevada-California border lies Nipton Road. After holiday weekends in Las Vegas, I-15 southbound traffic backs up 20 miles or more from the state line. The next 10-mile lane cut will add to Labor Day travel congestion.
Plans call for adding a lane that will only be open during heavy traffic. Restriping shoulders from the California state line south to the agricultural checkpoint.
