LAS VEGAS — A Nevada State Police trooper shot a driver early Sunday after the man pointed a firearm at officers during a traffic stop on Interstate 15, law enforcement officials report.

The incident began around 12:48 a.m. on the southbound I-15 on-ramp at St. Rose Parkway when troopers stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a red light. Troopers noticed signs of possible impairment and asked the driver to exit the car, but he refused.

During the confrontation, the driver reportedly pointed a gun at the trooper, prompting the officer to fire one shot through the vehicle’s window. The driver was taken into custody and transported to a hospital before being booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Officials say neither the trooper nor the suspect sustained serious injuries. An ongoing investigation, led by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, will review the traffic stop and use-of-force.
