North Las Vegas police responded around 1:54 p.m. on Sunday to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked at a Maverik gas station near East Tropical Parkway and Nicco Way. The vehicle, carrying two adults and three children, drew officers who engaged in a brief conversation with the driver outside the car. Moments later, the driver entered the vehicle and struck a child standing outside before circling the parking lot and intentionally colliding with one of the officers.
Responding to the threat, an officer discharged their weapon, and the vehicle eventually stopped in the median. The driver was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds; his condition has not been disclosed. The injured officer suffered minor injuries. A female passenger and three children were also evaluated at the hospital, although none were reported to be seriously harmed.
Traffic on Tropical Parkway was temporarily halted near the I‑15 and 215 interchange while officers examined the scene. This incident marks the second officer-involved shooting by North Las Vegas police this year. The involved officer’s identity will be released in accordance with department policy after 72 hours.
