North Las Vegas, Nevada – A woman in North Las Vegas has been charged with the double homicide of her girlfriend and her girlfriend’s mother, a horrifying and shocking act that has sent shockwaves through the town. North Las Vegas police on September 19 made an arrest and identified the suspect as 37-year-old Rosemary Meza, whose girlfriend, Alyssa Valdovinos, was killed along with Alyssa’s mother, Norma Rios Valdovinos, who was 58 years old.
The harrowing incident unfolded on September 19 around 6:10 p.m. when officers responded to a distressing report of a woman lying in the road, unresponsive, in the vicinity of Cartier Avenue and Magnet Street, near Civic Center Drive and Las Vegas Boulevard.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers were met with a horrifying sight. Norma Rios Valdovinos lay in the road, bearing deep ligature marks on her neck, along with scratch marks on her arms, indicating that she had attempted to defend herself during the attack. Despite immediate medical attention, Norma was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Surveillance footage from the vicinity provided a chilling account of the incident. The footage showed a vehicle stopping, followed by a struggle to pull the victim out of the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect then abandoned the victim in the road and drove away, leaving behind a gruesome scene.
Simultaneously, officers received a concerning call from a woman who reported her mother’s disappearance. The caller expressed that her mother had not been responding to her calls, was absent from her home, and could not be located.
As officers were investigating the situation at the hospital, they responded to a separate incident—a crash at the intersection of Alexander Road and North 5th Street. Remarkably, one of the drivers involved in the collision was Rosemary Meza.
While awaiting the arrival of detectives, Meza spontaneously confessed to the officers that she had killed her girlfriend and harmed her girlfriend’s mother earlier that day.
Further examination of Meza’s vehicle revealed smeared blood on the middle console armrest and the presence of a shoelace, raising alarming suspicions.
Detectives swiftly proceeded to an apartment where they discovered Alyssa Valdovinos lying lifeless on the living room floor. Alyssa exhibited signs of lividity and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meza was taken into custody, where she provided a chilling account of the events that transpired. She disclosed that she had picked up Norma from her workplace for a conversation, during which Norma began criticizing her. Meza then strangled Norma with a shoelace in a parking lot.
Following this horrifying act, Meza proceeded to Alyssa’s residence with Norma’s lifeless body still in the front seat. Once inside the home, she used the same shoelace to strangle Alyssa.
Rosemary Meza has appeared in court to face the grave charges against her.
