LAS VEGAS, NV — Commuters in the northwest valley faced significant travel disruptions Saturday morning after a heavy police presence forced the closure of a major thoroughfare for several hours.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) cordoned off Cheyenne Avenue in both directions between Soaring Gulls Drive and Cimarron Road. The closure was first reported at approximately 9:30 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
Cordoned Off for Investigation
While the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada confirmed the road was shut down for “police activity,” authorities remained tight-lipped throughout the morning regarding the specific nature of the incident.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing multiple patrol units and crime scene investigators focused on a perimeter near the local residential and commercial hubs bordering the Summerlin area. The area remained heavily secured for several hours, with traffic diverted into surrounding neighborhoods.
Traffic Impact and Reopening
The shutdown created a bottleneck for Saturday morning traffic, particularly for residents traveling between the 215 Beltway and the US-95. Motorists were urged to use Lake Mead Boulevard or Smoke Ranch Road as alternates while investigators processed the scene.
As of the late afternoon, lanes have begun to reopen, though a heavy police presence remained visible. LVMPD has not yet released information regarding any potential suspects or victims related to the incident.
